Parking or placing heavy objects in one spot can damage a new driveway. 4. Driveway edges are easily broken if unsupported. These should be filled with topsoil to avoid breakage. UPDATE: 3/16/03 A Message from Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal DRIVEWAY PAVING SCHEMES Connecticut driveways took a beating this winter, prompting warnings from Attorney General Richard Blumenthal to beware of paving and sealing scams by con artist contractors. "As summer begins, we traditionally see an increase in the number of scam artists who approach senior homeowners with paving and resurfacing deals that sound to good to be true, and they are," Blumenthal said. These fly-by-night pavers are not registered to do business in Connecticut and often disappear after they get their money. They solicit homeowners after saying they have asphalt and other materials
left from previous jobs. They offer to repave or seal their driveways
at a reduced cost, demanding a quick decision and immediate payment.
Some even drive seniors to the bank so they can withdraw cash to pay
them. They then do a shoddy or incomplete job -- or no work at all.
Many of them use "cold patch," which is not the correct material
for the job and lasts only a short time. |
